Bestival 2014

An award-winning wonderland of music, comedy, theatre, fancy dress and more

The Basics

Bestival is a multi award-winning, madcap jamboree that boasts more than 400 acts from superstars as big as Elton John and The Cure to emerging DJs and, quite literally, anything in between.

Sewn together by leftfield DJ Rob da Bank and his wife, expect poetry, theatre, comedy, speakers and art across the beautiful Robin Hill Country Park too.

You’ll find entertainment everywhere at Bestival, from open-air dance floors and wooded amphitheatres to Big Tops and Bollywood tents. The magical Isle of Wight event is also famous for getting fans to dig into their dressing up boxes with a different fancy dress theme for each festival.

If you like the quirky and the cool with a heavy dollop of tomfoolery, Bestival is for you. With every year welcoming a colourful theme, 2014 is the year of the Desert Island Disco!

Bestival 2014

Downend, Isle of Wight
PO30 2NU Isle of Wight
United Kingdom

Robin Hill Country Park is located just outside of Newport on the Isle of Wight, an island off the south coast of England.

There are several ferry crossings to the island from Southampton, Portsmouth, Southsea and Lymington, where shuttle buses and taxis take festival-goers to the site.

Getting There

Our Recommendations

What We Love

  • We love the effort ticket-holders make for the annual fancy dress theme, whether they come alone as a robot made of tin foil or a group of ten mates as an entire packet of biscuits. Scissors and sellotape at the ready, the theme will be announced soon!

  • Bestival haven’t just built a festival here, they’ve built another world. It’s a parallel universe where anything goes, 24/7. With at least 20 stages across ten fields (plus many hidden ones, we’re sure), festival-goers can become immersed in Indian-themed bars or get lost in wooden mazes. It’s about the cocktails and the toboggans, the homemade cakes and the strong scrumpy. It’s anything you want it to be.

What To Know

  • Although Bestival is held on the Isle of Wight, it couldn’t be easier to get to.The island is a short ferry ride from Southampton, Portsmouth and Lymington with shuttle buses and taxis taking festival-goers directly to the site from the other side. It’s best to book your boat early though if you want to ensure you can get across.

  • Just as with everything else, the food and drink at Bestival is tasty, eclectic and hand-picked. You can nosh down on delicious Indian street food or eat pimped-up American fare like mac n cheese with bacon. Maybe try gyoza, spring rolls and samosas served from a 1948 Ford pickup or grab some cake and tea from the lovely ladies in the WI Tent.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the theme for this year?

The 2014 theme is Desert Island Disco so expect palm trees, grass skirts, tiki torches, disco balls and crazy outfits and hairstyles.

  • All persons under the age of 18 must be accompanied at the festival by a parent, legal guardian or nominated guardian over the age of 30. No more than two Teens (age 13-17) are allowed per parent or guardian.

  • Thursday 4th Sept: The car parks open at 9am and the campsites and box offices open at midday. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday car parks and box offices are expected to open at 9am. No entry will be allowed into the site after midnight on any night. Campsites close at 4pm on Monday with car parks closing at 6pm.

  • Last year Tomorrow’s World, Magic Meadow, Grassy Hill, Wishing Tree, Stardust Field and Temple Island were all be open for action on the Thursday night with a full line-up of live music and DJs in The Big Top. Expect a similar amount of entertainment to be announced in 2014.

  • Yes you can set up camp in any of the colour-coded campsites but not in any of the main music arenas. You can only camp in the Boutique campsite, Wild Copse and Tangerine Fields if you have booked to stay in those areas prior to the event.

  • You are allowed to bring in your own alcohol for consumption in the camping fields, but only up to a reasonable amount per person. You will be asked to leave excess quantities outside the event. You will not be allowed to re-enter the festival site with alcohol once you’ve entered the festival site via the entrance gates. Alcohol cannot be brought into any of the main arenas or fields from the campsites. There are fully licensed bars available for you.
