Perched on the peninsula that juts out into the middle of the Gremminer Lake, Melt! Festival's spectacular light shows and hardy electronic, rock, pop and indie lineups blow apart all preconceptions of what a festival should be, year after year.

To call the location unique would be a gross understatement: amongst the defunct industry of the ex-coal mine's gigantic machinery, and surrounded by the lake that now fills the old pit itself, Melt! brings the best out of an extraordinary landscape, and finds beauty in even the most formidable of places.

From 15:00 to 07:00 each day, all of the stages host a multi-genre collection that swings towards the electronic, while the Sleepless Floor stays open from the moment the festival opens until the very end. The lake-side campsite and endless opportunities for a swim just put the icing on the cake.

Ferropolis is a recovered opencast coal mine in east Germany. The mine was fully operating into the early 90s, but is now flooded to form a beautiful lake. Five of the mine's original excavators are preserved on a spit of land in the middle of the water.

Gräfenhainichen is a small town about a mile from Ferropolis, with Dessau a half-hour drive away. Dessau is connected to Berlin by rail.
