Dropping into the beautiful Donauinsel for the very first time this June, Rock In Vienna's heavy-loaded carnival will bring a whole new feature to the Austrian festival landscape.
As a sister event of Germany's Der Ring and Rockavaria festivals, Rock In Vienna strolls into town with a debut lineup featuring Muse, Metallica, KISS, Incubus, Faith No More, Limp Bizkit and a whole lot more of rock and metal's modern greats.
One of the biggest music crowds Austria has ever seen will descend upon the luscious green of the Danube Island, soaking up the noise and basking in a unique location that is absolutely perfect for an open-air show. This may be its first edition, but Rock In Vienna already looks set to be around for a long time to come.
The Donauinsel (Danube Island) is a long island on the Danube River, located in the stretch that passes through Vienna. The island separates the Danube from a man-made channel, the Neue Danau (New Danube) which has noticeably cleaner water and is good for swimming.
The Donauinsel is home to many bars, restaurants and recreational facilities, and has hosted the Donauinselfest since 1983.
Vienna International Airport (Wien-Flughafen) is south-east of the city centre.
FROM THE AIRPORT BY BUS: By far the most direct route from the airport is by local bus. The airport stop is called Flughafen Wien Busterminal, and the number 1183 departs from it around once per hour. A 17-minute journey will take you to Wien Donaumarina on Wehlistrasse. From there, the island is a short walk away, over the bridge.
Those under 12 may not attend the festival, and those between 12 and 16 will need to be accompanied by a parent at all times.
