Rock in Vienna is Austria's newest and biggest heavy rock music festival. With a hall of fame that already includes KISS, Iron Maiden and Iggy Pop, it's no wonder it now attracts rock fans from across the continent.
Twin to Germany's Rock im Revier and Rockavaria festivals, the Austrian sibling will once again be plugging in on the banks of the Danube, reverberating to the soundwaves of some of Europe's best rockers as well as upcoming stars.
In 2017 the festival will broaden it horizons, not simply by adding an extra day to proceedings, but also by extending its lineup beyond heavy metal into the worlds of alternative rock, pop, hip-hop and more. This is reflected in the headliners, which include Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Kings of Leon.
Donauinsel is a long island that borders the Danube river in the heart Vienna. The island is home to a variety of bars, restaurants and more.
Vienna International Airport (Wien-Flughafen) is south-east of the city centre.
FROM THE AIRPORT BY BUS: By far the most direct route from the airport is by local bus. The airport stop is called Flughafen Wien Busterminal, and the number 1183 departs from it around once per hour. A 17-minute journey will take you to Wien Donaumarina on Wehlistrasse. From there, the island is a short walk away, over the bridge.
Those under 12 may not attend the festival, and those between 12 and 16 will need to be accompanied by a parent at all times.
