On 5 December, for the first time ever, Madrid will host its very own DGTL event. As part of the global festival brand, DGTL Madrid will, of course, play host to a selection of underground house and techno's finest names across the course of its 9-hour residency in IFEMA, an impressively vast venue in the north of the Spanish capital.
With the full timetable now released, we decided to outline how we would while away the hours between 10pm and 7am, with a few mixes thrown in to back up our decisions.
JP Enfant (Generator Stage, 22:00-00:00)
Who better to open things up than the latest person to contribute to DGTL's long-running podcast series, representing the brand's spiritual home fn the Netherlands at their first foray outing in the Spanish capital.
Damian Schwartz [live] (Generator Stage, 00:00-01:00)
It's always nice to take in a live set at electronic music events, and the deep and enticing sounds offered up by Madrid's very own Damian Schwartz are a perfect way to kick things into gear for what's to come.
Skatebård (Frequency Stage, 01:00-03:00)
Charlotte de Witte might seem like the obvious choice for this primetime slot, and there's no denying that the Belgian DJ has deservedly become one of the scene's biggest recent breakthroughs with her brand of booming, cavernous techno. But just on a personal level I know I'd have more fun seeing the endless grooves of the bearded Norwegian maestro Skatebård.
DJ Koze (Modular Stage, 03:00-05:00)
German icon vs Detroit pioneer vs UK underground favourite. The techno purist would surely favour Robert Hood, founding member of Underground Resistance, while on any other day Midland would be an easy choice. But there's just something about DJ Koze that keeps people (i.e. me) coming back.
The Black Madonna (Frequency Stage, 05:00-07:00)
It's a straight shoot out between John Talabot, Len Faki and The Black Madonna for the closing two hours; a real clash of the titans. No one would disappoint, but who can resist the acid-tinged, electro-infused stylings of Chicago's breakout superstar?
