In just a matter of days, the coastal Algarve town of Portimão will become a hotbed of electronic music activity, as DJs, producers, promoters, industry figures and, most importantly, fans make their way to the latest edition of The BPM Festival: Portugal.
With showcases from the likes of Paradise, Ellum, Desolat and Neopop, and a lineup populated by countless favourites from house and techno's vibrant underground, the event has become a key fixture of the festival calendar, bringing the European summer season to a close for another year.
To get a flavour of what you can expect to hear, we asked a handful of DJs from this year's lineup to pick out just one track that they're looking forward to playing in their respective sets.
Laurent Garnier & Chambray - 'Feelin' Good'
“I think the track title sums it up pretty well – I’ve always loved Laurent Garnier’s productions and this one is a slice of pure summer. Big keys, groovy bassline and a healthy serving of feel-good vibes. It’s the perfect track for BPM without a doubt."
Black Circle - 'Foolish' (Oxia Rework)
"I didn't choose this track on the sole basis that I reworked it – it's not so different from its original version, I only added rhythmic elements and re-did the mixdown and structure. I like playing this track because I can place it in my set at various moments: in the beginning, to get the vibe progressively up, or a little bit later, to cool things down for a moment, while maintaining the groove."
Sezer Uysal - 'Apastron' (Pig&Dan Remix)
"This track is incredible on and off the dancefloor. It’s dark and driving but has an old-skool feeling with progressive melodies that pull in the heart strings. Can’t get enough of it. The original is awesome but the Pig&Dan remix is outta this world.”
Francesca Lombardo - 'Flumen'
"This is my latest release coming out on Poker Flat Recordings this week. I have been a huge follower of the label since day one and I'm really looking forward to playing this one - it’s very emotional and works really well on the dancefloor."
East End Dubs - 'bRave'
"If you put this track at the right moment of your set you create the best vibe on the dancefloor."
GROOVEMENT INC - Caveman (16 Bit Mastered)
"A recent addition to the record collection, after hearing Herodot seamlessly flow this one in, the hunt was on to find it! The classic 90s hip-hop vocals are sampled from Monie Love's 'Grandpa's Party' – the addition of that baseline makes for a killer refix and when those chimes kick in the dancefloor erupts! An absolute essential."
Rone White & Alessandro Diruggiero - 'Keep Going'
"This track is the latest release on my own imprint Libero Records, and has done the rounds on the summer circuit with the biggest names hammering it out. If you're into the driving house sound then this will be a weapon in your collection that will stick around for a long time."
Neverdogs - 'Juice' (Original Mix)
"We chose one of our last tracks recently released on Moan. It is a track that we are playing so much and that we will gladly present at The BPM Festival."
