Without a shadow of a doubt, the leading showcase festival this side of the Atlantic for the next major artists is The Great Escape; the tastemaking festival, rife with industry folk and ardent gig-goers alike ostensibly sees the entire industry shift from England's capital to the painfully hip, but ever-welcoming Brighton.
The city's seaside streets blossom into a sprawl of in-the-know new music moguls, keen to see/hear the next alt-J, Iggy Azalea, Lizzo, Haim, or even Adele, all of whom played the festival at the very start of their careers.
The 'I saw them before they got big' diatribe is often bandied about nowadays - admittedly I've been known to spout off something similar, having seen a maniacally sweaty Mac DeMarco perform in one of his earliest UK shows at TGE back in 2013. There, I said it. But one thing is certain; there's an extensive list of global stars that have, at one point, performed in one of Brighton's many venues.
Of course, it's not just plucky up-and-comers who play The Great Escape, in fact, there are token performances from bands who have used TGE as a necessary stepping stone in their career. Both Foals and Friendly Fires, for instance, make their return to Brighton in a few weeks, so here's our playlist of your favourite new artists to come out of TGE:
The Great Escape takes place across Brighton from 9-11 May. Festicket will be taking a trip to Brighton as we cover the best moments from the festival and meet some of its most exciting artists – follow us on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter to keep up-to-date.
