How would you describe your music in three words?
Progressive. Melodic. Emotional.
Tell us about your ‘Nothing Toulouse’ tattoo, and what it means to you.
It’s a recording of my own voice saying "Nothing Toulouse" which was one of my songs that meant a lot to me – the outcome is an image of a waveform which I then had inked on.

You’ve spoken a lot about your struggles with anxiety. What was it like opening up to your fans, to the wider public and to the rest of the industry? It seems like it must have taken a lot of bravery.
It wasn’t an easy thing to do last year but it was something that I wanted to do, to be open and honest. I’m so grateful for the love and support that I have received from my fans and peers.
And how would you describe the place you’re in now? You’re back in the studio, which seems like a good sign.
This year has been an incredible year so far and I’ve really enjoyed being able to share my music and have some time to experiment in the studio. I’ve been working with some great musicians, from the legend that is Nile Rodgers to Colton Avery for my most recent single, and this is really important to me. I love being able to incorporate the instruments that I play in my singles – you guys will see even more of this on my upcoming tracks.
You’ll be at Amsterdam Music Festival this year, one of the biggest shows at ADE. What is it like coming back and playing for your home crowd?
It’s always great. ADE is a really crucial part of the music calendar every year and the fact that it’s in my home country makes it all the more special. We always like to put on an event each year that will ‘kick off’ the conference and it’s one of the few times that everyone gets together so you have the opportunity to invite your friends and peers to your show and play together.
What’s it like being in the midst of the ADE madness?
It’s exactly that – mad! In a really great way. It’s amazing to have everyone in the same place at the same time, all united by their passion for music. You never know what’s going to come from it!
And what should we look out for from Nicky Romero for the year to come?
Aside from new music, I also have a new project that I’m launching soon which I’m excited to share with everybody!
Thanks for speaking to us, Nicky.
