The organisers Rock in Rio Lisboa, the European edition of the legendary Brazilian festival, have revealed the first headliners for the next edition – confirming that Foo Fighters will top the bill in the Portuguese capital next September.
Now an established festival in its own right, Rock in Rio Lisboa first took place in 2004 with headline appearances from Paul McCartney, Sting, Peter Gabriel, Metallica, and Britney Spears. And in the 15 years since it has become a regular fixture of Europe's festival scene, taking place every other year as part of a cycle that sees the festival alternate between Lisbon and its spiritual home of Rio de Janeiro.
The last European edition, held in 2018, kept up the festival's long-running tradition of boasting lineups packed with global megastars – Muse, Bruno Mars, The Killers, Katy Perry and more – and with this first announcement for the 2020 festival it's clear the organisers aren't likely to pull any punches in terms of the programme.
