Valtifest is known as the ‘wild child’ of Amsterdam’s summer festivals and this year promises to be the same! The festival takes place every first Saturday in September with this year’s events held on the 7th, marking the end of the summer festival season.
Every year has a different fancy dress theme and in previous years these have been ‘Multicolour’, ‘Unleashed’ and ‘All In The Family’. This year’s theme is "KAK!", which translates as ‘Poop’ but is also Dutch slang for "Dandy" or "Posh" so festivalgoers will definitely be thinking outside of the box and mixing it up for costumes - like "Lana Del Diarrhea".
The festival is organised by MTV and Meubel Stukken, breeding creativity and encouraging innovative music and fashion. The line up also boasts an eclectic range of DJs playing music from dance, dubstep and hip-hop to house, punk and electro. This festival is a real opportunity to let go of your inhibitions and let your imagination run wild!

FUCKING POOP QUEERS STAGE
Overlooking the water of the IJ-Buurtveer is a rusty old shipyard called NDSM Wharf. The scene looks a little like a Mad Max movie! Only ten minutes away from Amsterdam, it is one of the few city festivals in the Netherlands. The shipyard is a hub of activity full of artists engaged in architecture, design, film, theatre and music.

To protect all festival goers in their bizarre attire no professional cameras are allowed on the festival site. But phones and personal cameras are absolutely fine. Just don't take that fancy SLR you got for your birthday.
No-one under the age of eighteen is allowed on site, if they are refused entry the tickets are also non-refundable.
Unfortunately not, there are plenty of bars and places to drink on site.
Despite Amsterdam's infamously liberal attitude, they have a policy of no drugs at the festival and you risk being thrown out if caught with anything.
Valtifest run a token system, meaning you change your cash (or you can pay by card) into tokens which you can then spend on food, drink and anything else on offer. Be careful to not buy too many though as they don't change them back at the end.
Pretty much every Dutch person speaks perfect English and ValtiFest is the party to end all parties in a nation who really like to party! And it's hosted by MTV so you know it's going to be loud and crazy.
OK, so "KAK" means 'Poop' and is also used by the Dutch as a bit of curse like 'Shit' or 'Damn', as well as meaning something 'Posh', so there really is a whole world of choices for costumes. Think cricket player, hockey player, Tommy Hilfiger, Le Freak C'est Chiq, Hyacinth Bouquet, Prince Charles, the LaCoste Crocodile, fraternities/sororities but also Lana del Diarrhea, Shitfaced, Winnie The Poo or Shit Hits The Fan. The crazier the better!
