Beyond The Headliners: 5 Must-See Acts at Secret Solstice 2018

Beyond The Headliners: 5 Must-See Acts at Secret Solstice 2018

With Secret Solstice about to take place in the land of the midnight sun this weekend, I'm sure you've all done your homework and have your festival planned out already, right? Of course you have.

But if by some minuscule chance you haven't, don't worry, I've got your back. You should, hopefully, know a bit about the headliners, so here's a bit of a dive into the smaller print artists.

No need to thank me.

George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic

17:55 Sunday - Valhöll Stage

I know what you're thinking but no, somehow George Clinton aka Dr. Funkenstein aka the Funkmaster General is not a headliner. Not really sure why such an influential artist is playing so early (I mean the man literally invented a genre of music), but at least it'll help with stage clashes. Embarking on the group's last tour ever, this is your chance to see a true legend who is the embodiment of funk. Go get your groove on.

20:20 Friday - Valhöll Stage

Diana DeBrito is one of the hottest up-and-coming hip hop and R&B artists out of the British scene. It's not all that hard to see why; she's a singer, rapper, and producer who knows how to put on a good show. What else do you need? Her sound is a compelling mix of everything from jazz to trap.

17:10 Saturday, Gimli Stage

If you've gone all the way to Iceland for a festival, you should probably catch some local acts. There are some obviously bigger names out there, but hip hop collective Reykjavíkurdætur bring the energy like none other. 11 women strong and championing the common sense message of equality, their stage show comprises choreography, solid flows, and general badassery.

Egyptian Lover

19:30 Sunday, Gimli Stage

One of the true OGs from the LA dance music scene, Egyptian Lover has been melding electro with hip hop since the '80s. DJ shows have certainly changed over the years, but Egyptian Lover still does his sets the old school way, with two turntables, an 808 or two, and plenty of rhythm.

21:30 Friday, Fenrir Stage

If you're looking for something a little heavier, enter another local act: Bjarki. Signed to Nina Kraviz's Trip label, the sonically diverse DJ and producer is known for putting together psychedelically pulsating sets to get lost in. Only putting out his first official release in 2015, it included one of the year's biggest club tracks 'I Want To Go Bang.'
