AfrikaBurn is a Burning Man regional event in Tankwa, South Africa. The same themes of expression, creativity and community take hold of one of the most arid regions of South Africa, as a temporary city of art springs up for 7 days and nights.
The theme for 2017's edition will be 'Play' – unlocking the connective tissue that brings us together to relax, explore and "amplify life".
Though filled with music, AfrikaBurn follows the original Burning Man in not being, first and foremost, a music festival. Art, self-expression and inclusivity are the primary principles, meaning that music has an important role to play while not being the festival's focal point.
Tankwa Karoo is a semi-arid desert. Stonehenge Private Reserve is approximately 300km north of Cape Town.
NOTE: The festival does not take place in Tankwa Karoo National Park.
The festival site is west of the Tankwa Karoo National Park, close to the R355 road and the Tankwa River.
