This year's festival is bigger and better than in 2011. We now have 4 arenas of music rather than the 3 of last year, incorporating Kalypso which we used for pre/after parties last year. This was some people's favourite venue so it felt right to incorporate it into the full festival. We will be also building a number of installations on the beach to pull all the arenas together so it feels like one big party across the whole of Zrce. We have increased the number of boat parties for 2012, with 16 boats in total going out this year, and we may have a couple of secret parties to still be announced ;)
Booking the biggest and best names in electronic music to headline the show, but our strength is in the depth of our bookings we surround these headline acts with. We aim to also book the freshest cutting edge/emerging talent around. We'd like to think a lot of our audience come to see the main headliners, but leave the festival having watched people perform they haven't heard of before, and with some new favourite acts to listen to again when they get home.
The location for the show was really special for us, it definitely sets us apart from other festivals and is a massive talking point between customers before the event even begins. I can't take credit for finding the site I'm afraid though. A good friend of mine who told me all about Croatia in the beginning had done shows on Zrce before. He had moved his events to a different area of Croatia but still loved the area, so put me in touch with various people on Zrce so we could begin holding Hideout Festival there.
On the Saturday of the festival last year Doorly was closing the Aquarius outdoor arena. He began slowing down the tempo of the tracks until he was playing some real slow jams. When he played the last track of the night he stripped down to his pants on stage and encouraged everyone else to do the same. He then ran off stage and dived into the sea. The whole area followed him, swimming in the sea watching the sunrise!
The festival only began in 2011 although it feels like it it's been running for much longer! We had been organising shows in Ibiza for quite a few years prior to 2011 and had heard a lot of people talking about Croatia as a new clubbing destination in Europe. Some friends had began running shows over there and had done really well and told us a lot about it. When looking at the shows that were going on in Croatia they were all wicked but all very specialist, our thoughts were to organise a festival which covered the whole electronic music spectrum, hence Hideout was born.
