Brittany's indie & alternative gem
La Route du Rock is an alternative, indie, and rock music festival in Saint-Malo, on the north-eastern coast of France.
Previous appearances from icons of these genres including The Cure, Nick Cave, The National, Portishead and last year's headliners Belle & Sebastian have given the festival a strong reputation for consistently fantastic lineups.
All of this takes place on the beautiful coast of Brittany, both on Saint-Malo's beach and in the historical Fort de Saint-Père.
Relaxed daytime sessions at the beach progress to a more high-tempo evening programme, with the Fort (an 18th century Vauban castle) providing a particularly stunning venue.
BY TRAIN: The Gare de St Malo can be reached directly from Rennes (and several other destinations throughout Brittany)
BY FERRY: If travelling from the UK, ferries go directly to St Malo from Portsmouth, Plymouth, and also the Channel Islands.
BY PLANE: Flights to Brittany tend only to depart from the UK; from elsewhere fly to Paris (CDG) and then you can easily reach St Malo by train.
