France's biggest music festival
In 1992 the group of friends behind Les Vieilles Charrues could not have imagined that those small private BBQs would one day evolve into France's biggest festival, with a reputation that reaches far beyond its Brittany base. But that's just what's happened.
Nowadays, the festival's main stage is graced by internationally renowned artists such as The Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys, Bruce Springsteen and The Cure, in what has become a boiling pot of musical styles and generations, consistently brewing with the same mix of eclecticism and conviviality.
Founder Christian Troadec, the current mayor of Carhaix, said the idea back then was to “enjoy a good meal, have a sing-a-long and a couple of drinks”. Oh how times have changed!
The festival site, next to the Chateau Kerampuil and on the outskirts of Carhaix, forms a natural amphitheatre meaning the fields are a unique place to host live music, providing superb sound quality and views from every angle.

By train: TGV services run from Paris to Brest, stopping at Guingamp, which is a small regional train ride away. Similarly, TER services run between Nantes and Quimper, stopping at Rosporden, which is a coach ride away from Carhaix.
By coach: There are various coaches that connect the UK with Brittany.
Les Vieilles Charrues actively discourages flying to promote eco-friendly travel methods, and there are also very limited internationally well-connected airports nearby, with the best probably Rennes, but even that is over an hour and a half away by car.
Yes, the new Woodcamp area gives festival-goers the choice to sleep in a tepee or cabin. However, these of course come at an extra price.
Yes, there will be cash machines on site, but they will charge you to withdraw money.
