Originally set up for the hippies of the 1970s, Roskilde Festival in Denmark soon morphed into the country’s finest music-orientated festival. Today it remains an essential Scandinavian stop-off for music-lovers from around the world.

Each year, organisers select around 180 acts that include a balance of well-known artists, cutting-edge stars, local headliners and up-and-coming names. Around 110,000 festival-goers will attend the event in 2013 - will you be one of them?

During the festival, trains depart regularly from Copenhagen Central Station to Roskilde Station. From here, shuttle buses and train connections go directly to the festival itself.

A number of direct bus services also serve the festival from across Denmark and abroad.

Visiting Roskilde town by train and bus is easy, with routes direct from the festival site to the town centre.

FAQs

Roskilde has more than 150 food and drink stands. There should be something for everyone with each food stall offering at least one vegetarian option.

Of course. You must purchase a regular ticket and your helper will get a free pass if they fill out the form on the Roskilde website.

Roskilde has a quieter disabled camping area with power supplies and special bathing facilities. It also features the centrally-located Ryttergarden where you can get your wheelchair recharged, rest and more. There will also be festival staff available to answers any questions.

Roskilde offers parking for festival-goers who come by car. Parking is generally free, but if you want to park close to the festival entrance, you must buy a parking ticket.

Parking areas are located more on Vor Frue Hovedgade (across from entrance East), south of camping area P (Kamstrupvej) and on Darupvej by entrance West. The free parking slots are located south of the festival area in Darup. All parking areas are open around the clock from Friday 28 June at 15:30 to Monday 8 July at 15:00.

There’s no access to electricity on the campsites, but if your mobile runs out of battery there are a number of lockers with phone-charging facilities. There are also areas for recharging car batteries.
