A brand new boutique alpine festival
Snow Machine is a brand new boutique alpine festival, showcasing four days of music at Japan's largest ski destination: the 10 mountain-resorts of the Hakuba Valley.
Snow Machine's debut edition will feature dance music royalty Peking Duk and What So Not, acclaimed producer duo Hermitude, chart topper Illy, indie-pop quartet The Jungle Giants, party-starters Confidence Man and Hot Dub Time Machine.
All will play out amongst some of the most idyllic backdrops throughout the Hakuba ski fields, from sweeping mountaintop vistas to cosy après soirees, outdoor village stages and to onsens (Japanase hot springs).
Snow Machine will take place in Japan's largest ski destination: the 10 mountain-resorts of the Hakuba Valley. The site is famed for hosting the 1998 Winter Olympics.
Hakuba Happo-One, Hakuba, Japan
Hakuba sits 250k west of Tokyo in the Japanese Alps making Haneda Airport and Narita Airport in Tokyo the two best entry points into Japan. Once at either airport, you have three options for getting to Hakuba.
Nagano Snow Shuttle: This coach bus leaves from both Narita and Haneda and will take you directly to Hakuba Bus Terminal in the main Hakuba ski village, Happo.
Airport Train + Bullet Train + Bus: This is the fastest route to Hakuba and includes a 1.5 hour journey on the world famous Japanese Shinkansen (Bullet Train). While it is the fastest option, it does require three transfers but they are easy to navigate, and riding the Shinkansen is an essential Japanese holiday experience.
Chuo Taxi: The Chuo Taxi is the best option for those arriving at either Airport early in the morning or late in the evening when the Shinkansen and Airport Shuttle Bus are not operating. Each passenger in the taxi van must pay the ticket rate and each group must split a charge of ¥3,000. If you are traveling solo with the Chuo Taxi from Haneda, therefore, you will pay ¥20,100.
There will be an on snow event everyday from 13:00 to 16:00, followed by an apres event from 15:00-18:00, while the main stage is open daily from 18:00-22:00, with after parties into the morning.
There is an inter resort shuttle that runs from the Happo Information Center to Iwatake and Hakuba 47 resorts.
All official festival events are for those aged 18 and over. However, the festival aims to provide a safe environment for families. Parents and guardians are responsible for their children at all times. The Kids Stage is an entertainment venue and not a child minding facility so carers are asked to stay with their children.
There are several English Speaking rental shops in Hakuba.
