SWR Barroselas Metalfest is a heavy metal music festival held in Barroselas, Portugal. Celebrating its 20th edition this year, the festival is one of the oldest of its kind in Europe.
The festival's lineup brings together heavy hitters from across the world with Norwegian black metal pioneers Mayhem and brutal Belgian death metallers Aborted leading the charge for this year's anniversary celebrations.
Spanning three stages and with a 'metal market', talks, and meet & greets with the bands, the festival is an all-encompassing celebration of the genre, beloved by fans from Portugal and from across the world.
Located around 15km from Viano do Castelo in the northwest of Portugal, Barraselos first hosted the festival back in 1998.
BY PLANE: Porto Airport is the closest to the festival. From there, catch a train to Porto Campanhã and then another on to Barroselas.
