Szene Openair is an annual multi-genre music festival held in Lustenau, Austria. One of the oldest and most established anywhere in the country, the festival is preparing to celebrate with another feast of diverse music from across the continent, and from further afield.
From what began as a local cultural organisation creating a platform to provide emerging domestic talent wider exposure, the festival's ethos is to promote Europe's next superstars, offering equal billing alongside international icons; in 2020, the likes of German hip hop virtuosos RAF Camora and Yung Hurn will headline alongside Irish punk icons Dropkick Murphys.
Rock music was formerly the most heavily represented genre at Szene Openair, but these days the lineup is a rich mix of genres, welcoming plenty of artists that span pop, hip hop, techno and more to their stages.
Lustenau is an Austrian town on the border with Switzerland. The festival takes place just south of the town on the banks of the Alter Rhein, a cut off arm of the river Rhine.
