The Best Electronic Music Festivals in Germany 2020

Germany and dance music go hand in hand. As anyone familiar with Berlin will tell you, the country's capital thrives off the four-to-the-floor thumps that reverberate around its clubs.

And it's similar for Germany's music festivals too, with dance fans spoilt for choice. From techno icon Time Warp to the blistering that is Airbeat One and the hedonistic Mayday Dortmund, here are just ten of our favourite German festivals that'll please every dance fan.

Airbeat One

Not just one of Germany's most renowned electronic music festivals, Airbeat One's bombastic, buoyant and immersive party reverberates around Europe as over 50,000 ravers touchdown in the tranquil town of Neustadt-Glewe each summer, lured in by its top-tier lineup that stretches out across its four days.

Time Warp

A techno giant, the Time Warp brand now reaches across the globe, hosting events in the US and even Brazil. But its flagship Mannheim event still reigns supreme, continuously curating a heavyweight lineup to join them for a techno marathon inside the enormous hangar-like venue they call home.

SEMF – Stuttgart Electronic Music Festival

A 12-hour techno party inside Stuttgart's trade and exhibition centre Messe Stuttgart, SEMF has become a staple of the city's music scene having brought some of the underground's most popular names to its hometown for over a decade.

New Horizons

This futuristic utopia is essentially heaven for any dance music fan. Dubbed 'seven festivals in one', New Horizons takes each strand of dance music – EDM, hardstyle, techno and more – and divides its site up into seven areas, each with their own distinct vibe and sound. To help them achieve this, New Horizons invites esteemed brands like Q-Dance, Armada and HYTE to help them realise their vision and create this truly unique festival.

And with art installations, far-out performers and a wholesome party vibe, New Horizons has plenty of surprises in store alongside the music.

Albeit not solely focused on electronic music, the genre does form a large chunk of Melt's lineup. Held inside the imposing grounds of the Ferropolis; a museum of titanic mid-20th-century industrial machinery which is located just outside of Gräfenhainichen, Melt merges music with industrial history, culture and nature, curating a festival for every type of festival-goer.

Nature One

Lighting up a former NATO missile base, Nature One's four stages showcase everything from house and techno to minimal, EDM and trance from over 350 DJs and live acts, all played out underneath its electrifying visual production.

Mayday Dortmund

With over 30 years experience, Mayday has become one of the continent's most hedonistic events with blurry videos of its 90s raves inspiring millions of young music fans keen to experience it first hand.

World Club Dome

Echelon Open Air & Indoor

Held within the Ehemalige US Kaserne, a former NSA Satellite Tracking Station which was active throughout the Cold War, a stellar roster of house and techno music's finest beam into the heart of Bavaria to perform in front of thousands of dance purists. 

And with five impressive and imposing stages all displaying sonic variations, what's now become commonplace is the dizzying state-of-the-art visuals set amongst the location's iconic radar domes with the Bavarian mountains as its backdrop, culminating in a rave of interstellar proportions.
