In the festival world, Annie Mac Presents: Lost & Found is one of those that sort of signals the beginning of summer. In reality, calling the first weekend of May summer is probably pushing it a bit. But when the first photos and videos emerge from the sunny shores of Malta it's hard not to get just a little bit excited about the months ahead.
This year, as ever, the lineup comprises a mix of DJs, MCs, singers and live performers from a mix of genres – almost exclusively suited to sunny weather. So to get everyone in the spirit for summer, whether you're heading to the festival or not, here are 10 mixes from some of the names on the lineup for 2018. Enjoy.
The Heatwave – Now That's What I Call Shelling
Nothing really says summer like carnival bangers, and The Heatwave do bashment better than most.
Shanti Celeste – Live at Dekmantel 2017
The Chilean born, Bristol based DJ is hugely revered in the scene, with her soulful selections increasingly in demand at festivals and shows across the globe.
Oneman – WHP17 Mix
Oneman's sets are always a delight; unfailingly eclectic and packed to the rafters with all manner of tunes from exciting new artists.
This brilliant mix recorded ahead of his Warehouse Project appearance last winter is no different, featuring Afro, kuduro, UK funky, hip-hop, garage, house and more.
The Dreem Teem – Clash DJ Mix
It's not exaggerating things to say that the The Dreem Teem are legends of UK Garage. Formed more than 20 years ago, they were part of the movement that took the genre from London's underground to the top of the charts. And two decades on it still sounds as good as ever.
Monki – Mixmag: In Session
The Radio 1 regular is a good mate of Annie Mac's – the two recently played the first ever 'Radio 1 Rave Lounge' together – so it's no surprise to see her invited along to Lost & Found.
But that's definitely not to suggest she's not there on merit, she's more than capable of smashing her way through a house set (as this mix proves).
Dub Phizix – FABRICLIVE 84 Promo Mix
A half-hour snapshot of why Manchester's Dub Phizix is among the best in the drum & bass scene. Longstanding MC Strategy is not present on this mix, but rest assured he'll be in attendance in Malta.
Peggy Gou – Mixmag Cover Mix
Arguably the most in-demand DJ of the moment, Peggy Gou has a packed schedule ahead of her following the release of superb EP Once on Ninja Tune earlier in the year.
Itgehane is already my prediction to be the soundtrack of this summer of festivals. But it's the equally great Han Jan that brings this mix to a close, after an hour of house, techno, acid and disco.
Mall Grab – FACT Mix
The Aussie DJ is going to be a busy boy on 6 May – playing his main set, a boat party, and back-to-back with Annie Mac at the pool party. If between them they fail to play his fantastic track Pool Party Music, something has gone seriously wrong.
My Nu Leng – Quest Mix
There are quite a few iterations of My Nu Leng. From the darker early stuff through to high energy DnB and the hyperactive bassline of late; as displayed in their meteoric B2B set with TQD at Boomtown last summer.
This mix is a little different from all that. Recorded for Radio 1 stalwart Annie Nightingale, it is supposed to emulate "a journey through the day of a festival... from waking up in the morning & getting ready, reaching the festival, making it to a warehouse after party and then back home".
Annie Mac – Sunshine Mix
We couldn't possibly miss out the mastermind behind the whole affair. So last and by no mean least is an aptly titled 'Sunshine Mix' from a certain Annie Mac. It's a few years old now, but the blend of house, soul, R&B and garage sounds as good as ever.
In the words of the woman herself: "Fire up the BBQ get the beers in the fridge and stick this on loud!"
