The grime genre emerged in London, inspired by jungle and garage music (which also originated in the UK), in the early 2000's and has since received attention from many countries outside of the UK, most notably Canada. Grime is an electronic music subgenre and is distinctly characterized by its rapid, syncopated breakbeats and aggressive electronic sounds.

Grime festivals include the likes of BassJam presents Mist, Tom Zanetti, Sigma, Fresh Island Festival, SAGA Festival and Wireless Festival

Artists such as Stormzy, Wretch 32 and Giggs can be seen playing at a number of grime festivals.

In recent years grime artists like Stormzy and Giggs have played the traditionally dance focused Creamfields, and Stormzy has even headlined Glastonbury.
