One of the most unapologetic and unrelentingly high-octane styles of electronic music, it's difficult to think of a more suitable name for the genre than hardcore.

Born out of the techno scene of northern Europe in the 1990s – in particular Belgium and the Netherlands – the genre is defined by it's blisteringly high BPMs and intense, pounding kick drums.

A precursor and close relative to the likes of gabber, hardstyle, mákina, tekno and more, hardcore is on the most enduring and fervently supported subgenres by its hugely dedicated fanbase – from intimate clubs to enormous festivals like Defqon.1 and everything in between.
