For a country smaller in size than the likes of Iceland, Cuba and even Nepal, it's fair to say Portugal punches above its weight when it comes to music festivals,
Across the year, and particularly over summer, the Iberian nation hosts some of European's most respected events, from multi-genre giants like NOS Alive and Super Bock Super Rock, EDM heavyweights like RFM Somnii, and underground electronic delights like Neopop and The BPM Festival. Special mention should also go to newcomer Afro Nation, the hype around the first edition unlike almost anything else in the festival world this year with tickets selling out immediately.
Spanning idyllic riverside locations and inner-city creative hubs, the country really does boast something for everyone, whatever genre or vibe you're looking for. Here is our pick of the best.
Sumol Summer Fest

Despite being a relative newcomer to the scene, having only launched in 2018, it's not hard to see the appeal of Nova Batida – namely the near-peerless lineup of underground electronic, rap, funk, soul and jazz. The setting for this musical feast: Lisbon's creative hub at LX Factory and Village Underground.
