The bright lights of Paris have long been associated with romance, charm and culture. But hidden in its shadows is an inner-edge, defined by its diverse set of music festivals that pour out everything from indie-rock to pounding techno.

Weather Festival

Headliners: Adam Beyer, Nina Kraviz, Loco Dice

Delving from the depths of minimal techno up to the surface of nu-disco, Weather Festival has become the city's go-to electronic party due to its consistently on-point lineups curated by major labels and underground trend-setters. 

Although the "official" event shuts down before midnight, the festival's vibe lives on beyond, meaning many of Paris' coolest bars and clubs keep the Weather party going till the early morning.

Rock en Seine

Headliners (2015): The Chemical Brothers, The Libertines, alt-J

Surely Paris' most famous music festival, Rock en Seine carries huge weight even beyond its borders, consistently brining world-beating lineups of international artists, from true indie to alternative electro, to the striking Château de Saint-Could.

The Peacock Society

Headliners (2015): Laurent Garnier, Loco Dice, Seth Troxler

Four stages filled with the soundwaves of our favourite techno DJs interspersed with scrumptious food trucks, vibrant bars and other delights come together for the essential summer techno party in the beautiful Parc Floral de Paris.

We Love Green

Headliners: LCD Soundsystem, PJ Harvey

It's not often that you come across a festival that's dedicated to sustainability, but that's exactly what We Love Green is all about. Showcasing innovative lineups of great French acts and international names alike, with particularly strong threads of techno and indie-rock, this idyllic Paris parkland is the perfect place to promote eco-friendliness and have an awesome party to match.

Pitchfork Music Festival Paris

Headliners (2015): Thom Yorke, Ratatat, Beach House

Hipsters will no doubt be familiar with Pitchfork and its influential music publication covering new, emerging and independent artists. Its music festival, held in both New York and Paris, follows the same remit, setting up an indie haven of record stores, vintage clothes markets and much, much more, becoming the festival of the cool and curious music fan.

Marvellous Island

Headliners (2015): Adam Beyer, Nicole Moudaber, Ellen Allien

Linking together musical and visual performance, not only should you expect some of the finest house and techno DJs at Marvellous Island, but also some of the best stage-production and design going. Beach relaxation and hardcore raving come hand in hand in its enchanted land that is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

AFROPUNK FEST Paris

Headliners (2015): Lianne La Havas, Patrice, Leon Bridges

Inspired by the movement of the same name, Afropunk originated in new York but has since journeyed over to the French capital. Celebrating diversity and multi-culturalism through, music, film and art, the festival is a true reflection of Paris' urban diversity.

Download Festival France

Headliners: Iron Maiden Rammstein

UK metal fans will be well accustomed to Download. The heavy rock festival has become somewhat of a rite of passage for them, with Slipknot's Corey Taylor even describing it as "the destination for heavy-metal and hard rock fans”. Now journeying across the channel for its first edition outside the UK in 2016, Download France will be treating the French capital to a riff-tastic weekend.
