Lineup by Lineup: 10 Festivals to Go to if You Missed Out on Glastonbury

A few months ago we suggested 10 Glastonbury alternatives for anyone who hadn't managed to get tickets. But now, with many of the festivals on that list having already taken place and with the irretrievably not-Glastonbury-bound among us currently sitting at home looking as glum-faced as a grounded kid on the day of her best friend's birthday party, we thought we'd have another crack at it.

But this time, it's scientific. No proposals based on festival size, genre and vibe; no, this time we've done what we did with Coachella and painstakingly processed the lineups of every Festicket festival yet to come this summer, and found ourselves the 10 that have the most in common with good old Glasto.

So have a browse, stop feeling sorry for yourself and get something else booked in.

Reading & Leeds

Believe it or not, Britain's massive, world famous and (nowadays) hugely eclectic festivals Reading & Leeds have quite a lot in common with the biggest, most famous and most eclectic festival in Britain. All the way from alt-J, Jack Garratt and All We Are to deadmau5, Gorgon City and Jamie xx, you'll have no end of opportunity to see the sets you've missed out on. But this time it's also a bank holiday weekend.

When & where: 28 - 30 August 2015, Reading/Leeds, UK

Only just beaten down into second, Bestival romps along into its 12th year as another of the UK's very big and not very genre-specific festivals. It's set way apart from the crowd, though, by the incredible zaniness of its carnival-tastic supporting cast. As for the music, there's a small army of Glasto alumni, including Flying Lotus, Young Fathers, FKA Twigs and Seth Troxler.

When & where: 10 - 13 September 2015, Isle of Wight, UK

In amongst Latitude's tidal wave of comedy, theatre and poetry there is still quite a bit of music on show, from the intimate Lake Stage to the main Obelisk Arena. Lap up your fill of Seafret, SBKTRKT, Django Django, Caribou, alt-J and a whole lot more.

When & where: 16 - 19 June 2015, Southwold, UK

This is what we were waiting for. Our first real curveball sees us heading south-west to the Cornwall coast to see the likes of Rudimental, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Clean Bandit and Circa Waves laying down a soundtrack for international sports pros and amateur festival-goers alike. Surfing to Everything Everything sounds like a pretty pleasant afternoon.

When & where: 5 - 9 August 2015, Newquay, UK

Flow Festival

Also just a little off the beaten track, Flow Festival takes over a disused power station to the north of Finland's capital city, Helsinki. Aptly enough, the Glasto contingent is heavily urban, though Run The Jewels, Skepta and Flying Lotus are also joined by Songhoy Blues, Seth Troxler and alt-J.

When & where: 14 - 16 August 2015, Helsinki, Finland

Speaking of alt-J, followers of the Britain's finest avant-garde indie band won't be surprised to see them cropping up yet again, this time at the Budapest-based blowout, Sziget Festival. One of 2015s hardest-working bands is joined in Hungary by recenlty-promoted Glastonbury headliners Florence and the Machine, as well as Jungle, Future Islands, Milky Chance, The Maccabees Sigma.

When & where: 10 - 17 August 2015, Budapest, Hungary

Croatia Rocks

We keep hearing that Pag Island is the new centre of European club holidays, so it only makes sense that Ibiza Rocks would want to bring its urban/pop/electronic party to beaches new. Kate Tempest, Shy FX, Wilkinson and The Vaccines are just four good reasons to spend a long weekend in the blazing sun and swimming in the Adriatic.

When & where: 19 - 23 July 2015, Novalja, Croatia

Super Bock Super Rock

Into its third decade of high-grade summer shows, Super Bock Super Rock's big win this year was getting Sting to headline their Thursday night. Yes, he's technically irrelevant on this list, but still – Sting! Besides FFS (Franz Ferdinand & Sparks), Florence and the Machine, Sinkane, King Gizzard & The Gizzard Wizard, SBTRKT, Milky Chance and The Vaccines still get them in at eight place.

When & where: 16 - 18 July 2015, Lisbon, Portugal

Lollapalooza Berlin

At long last, the Chicago powerhouse Lollapalooza comes to Europe. After 25 years of "counter-culture" festivals across the Atlantic, its alternative style turns up in Berlin with James Bay, Clean Bandit, FFS, Wolf Alice, Run The Jewels, Everything Everything and Belle & Sebastian in tow.

When & where: 12 - 13 September 2015, Berlin, Germany

Finishing off with a bang (or in fact, an exclamation mark) Melt! pits Jon Hopkins, Jamie T and siriusmodeselektor together with the princess of pop herself, Kylie Minogue. It may sound weird, but once you see the ex-coal mine location, the lineup doesn't seem quite so out-there after all.

When & where: 17 - 19 July 2015, Gräfenhainichen, Germany
