Amsterdam Dance Event's Secret Playground

Amsterdam Dance Event's Secret Playground

Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) is a 5-day electronic marathon, unrivalled for attracting industry leaders and the world's biggest artists.

With the likes of Seth Troxler, Axwell ^ Ingrosso, Hardwell, Len Faki and Joris Voorn playing at shows curated by DGTL, Awakenings and Amsterdam Music Festival and more, ADE 2016 looks set to draw in thousands of music-lovers with its innovative and immersive performances.

But it's not just about the music. Alongside its scene-leading conference, ADE celebrates many more aspects of creativity, with hotspots springing up throughout the city that feature secret raves, art installations, rooftop parties and pop-up cinemas.

So, ahead of this year’s event, we wanted to shine a light on what can be expected from the ADE Playground, and which installations you really don’t want to miss.

Rooftop Parties

There is something to be said for any rooftop party; but when you factor in the beautiful cityscape of Amsterdam, the world’s best electronic artists and an electrifying atmosphere across the city, the ADE Rooftop Party is always on another level.

Every year these spring up all over the heart of the city and this year the organisers have already announced that rooftop terrace parties will once again form part of the Playground repertoire.

Secret Rave – Red Light District

Amsterdam is iconic, in part, because of its Red Light District. The winding streets filled with red booths are a feature of the city’s liberal culture and ADE does not shy away from this. At a currently undisclosed location in the district, ADE is planning to host a very special Secret Rave. Judging by the rest of the week's programme, this will be an unmissable, one-off combination of iconic Dutch culture with electronic masterclasses.

Hidden Performances

Dotted around Amsterdam, a carefully curated selection of hidden performances and listening sessions will be waiting for anyone determined enough to find them. Reaching across themes and styles, these are always genuine treasures that are more than worth the hunt.

Few events can boast such a city-wide selection of things to see, but ADE really does take over the city. The only way to make the most of it is to explore the streets and absorb as much of the talent on display as humanly possible.

Temporary Screenings

Creativity comes in many forms, and cinema is pretty much unbeatable in terms of popularity. In true ADE fashion, unique film screenings will be taking place over all 5 days, adding a whole new dimension to the experience.

From an array of carefully chosen films, expect to see "red carpet world premieres, in-depth documentaries on global night life, and short films on clubbing capitals around the world."

Hop-On Party Buses

ADE is all about music that moves. Hop-On Party Buses will be rolling across Amsterdam, bringing you great music whilst navigating the streets and waterways of the city. So in between spectacular festival shows, street art, secret raves, cinema and roof parties, you can take in a more laid-back side of ADE and the creative masterminds behind it.

Art Installations

ADE is known for inundating festival-goers with unique opportunities to see dynamic and creative art across the city. Last year saw delights such as the Mini Galerie which hosted 'The Art Of The Album Cover II', Radion which celebrated international street art, and even the Amsterdam Museum welcomed an entire exhibit on graffiti art from New York to Amsterdam.

This year looks set to be no different, so be sure to keep a close eye on the city's hotspots to see what inspiring and eye-catching pieces you can find. For those really keen to take it all in, Urban Art NOW and Amsterdam Museum are teaming up and providing walking tours hosted by Amsterdam's prominent local street artists.

Urban Art NOW and Amsterdam Museum tours take place daily from 14 until 18 October, starting at 15:00 at the Original Dampkring Gallery (address: Singel 395).
