ASOT Utrecht: 5 Mixes To Get You Rave-Ready

ASOT Utrecht: 5 Mixes To Get You Rave-Ready

ASOT 950: A State of Trance Festival Utrecht 2020

The past couple of years have seen a huge resurgence in trance. Pushing its way back onto the main stage, the genre is packed with artists that are able to draw from other sounds while maintaining that undeniable trance feel.

The most recognisable brand in the genre, Armin van Buuren's A State of Trance is heading to Utrecht this weekend for what is sure to be a night of huge synths and booming beats.

To get you in the mood, here are sets and mixes from five artists who will be taking the decks at the festival.

Armin van Buuren

Where else could you possibly start than with the legend behind it all? This headline set from Tomorrowland 2018 showcases everything that's made Armin the leader of modern trance. His musicality and melodic approach to big room electronic music is absolutely unparalleled.

Above & Beyond

The unifying effects of Above & Beyond's euphoric sound are on full display here. The trio's patented dreamy synths and vocals abound throughout the set, floating above various beats and tying together the breakdowns to create a seamless two hours of music.

Cosmic Gate

A less etherial approach to trance, this Cosmic Gate mix dabbles in some synthwave sounds and gets downright primal at times. Of course, the silvery tones of trance are still here and work their way into verbose big room beats.

Vini Vici

Hard hitting and uptempo, Vini Vici put the drums up front and centre to give this mix a driving feel. Packing sounds from all over the world into an hour of music, we find the Israeli duo showcasing a darker sound here.

Astrix

The poster child for psytrance, this set from Boom Festival finds Astrix at his most atmospheric, drawing inspiration from everything from 8-bit video games to thunderous techno. His ability to merge cerebral synths and relentless drumbeats is his calling card.

A State of Trance Festival Utrecht 2019 takes place 23 February at Jaarbeurs.
