In a matter of days, the coastal town of Tamarindo will become a hotbed of underground house and techno, as The BPM Festival: Costa Rica opens the doors on the newest chapter in the global festival family's ongoing story.
Across five days and nights, a wealth of the scene's biggest names join forces with local favourites as showcases from the likes of Mindshake, Kaluki, Visionquest and This Is The End offer electronic music fans the chance to party in the paradisiacal surroundings of one of the world's most beautiful nations.
Ahead of this exciting debut, we've scoured the lineup and picked out a few mixes from artists therein – including one recorded exclusively for Festicket – to get you in the mood for an unforgettable experience.
David Gtronic – The BPM Festival: Costa Rica Preview Mix
Where else to start than with this mix recorded exclusively for Festicket by Colombia-born, Berlin-based purveyor of underground electronic grooves David Gtronic. Appearing at the festival alongside the likes of Hector, AMO, and Javier Carballo as part of the Vatos Locos showcase, you can expect his set to filled with the sort of sounds on display here – from acid infused bangers, to techno thumpers, to dancefloor filling edits.
Kenny Dope – Spring Soulful House Mix '18
One half of Masters At Work (alongside Louie Vega), veteran DJ and producer Kenny Dope is a legend of the NYC house music scene, and his love of record-digging, his block party education, and his Brooklyn upbringing shine through in each and everyone one of his mixes – filled with aspects of hip-hop, soul, jazz, Latin, funk and more. And the title of this mix in particular tells you basically everything you need to know, along with the description from the man himself: "Just A little House Mix to Ride & Cook Out to..."
Nicole Moudaber – In The MOOD (Episode 297)
The latest instalment of Nicole Moudaber's long-running mix series sees the esteemed DJ, producer, label boss, promoter and radio host taking things back to where it all began for her, in the clubs of Lebanon's capital city. Recorded live from The Grand Factory in Beirut, the mix is filled with the kind of dance-floor driven house, tech-house and techno that has come to define her storied career to date.
Carl Craig – In Session: Mixmag
One of a handful of Detroit aces on the lineup, alongside Stacey Pullen, Kenny Larkin and Wajeed, Carl Craig heads up another Detroit Love showcase, celebrating the spirit of the city that spawned the music without which The BPM Festival would not exist. And a whole host of that music is expertly presented here, in a mix for one of the scene's biggest publications and platforms.
Melissa O – Live @ Envision Festival 2018
As you might expect, The BPM Festival's debut outing in Costa Rica will welcome a selection of the host country's most exciting DJs, so it's only right that we recognise the talent also. Here, San Jose native Melissa O explores the deeper end of the house music spectrum, in an engrossing mix recorded live at another of Costa Rica's most revered electronic music festivals, Envision.
