One of the most forward thinking, artist-centric festivals is about to go down this weekend in Amsterdam. DGTL may now be a global brand, but its Dutch edition is still its flagship event. And with that title comes raised expectations.
Luckily, the festival have curated yet another incredible lineup, covering everything from dark techno to euphoric disco. If you're in the Dutch capital this weekend for the festival or just wish you were, here are five mixes from five artists on this year's bill you should not miss.
Motor City Drum Ensemble
The word that comes to mind when describing a Motor City Drum Ensemble set is jubilant. There are a lot of funk/disco/house DJs out there but not many who can get a crowd shaking like MCDE. This set from Dekmantel 2014 has made its way into Boiler Room lore, becoming a pre-party staple.
It's every electronic artist's dream to get an Essential Mix. Because of this, when it finally happens for them they bring their A-game. Brazil's ANNA has made her mark in the techno scene by balancing the requisite heaviness with a firm sense of groove, which is on full display here.
Another Boiler Room classic, there's a real sense of positivity starting from the opening Stevie Wonder sample that permeates this entire set. Moving through disco, funk and house with ease, Honey Dijon is one of the best DJs out at the moment.
Perhaps the most intriguing set of DGTL Amsterdam 2019 will come from Disclosure. After bursting onto the scene in 2013, the duo have been silent since their 2015 album Caracal. Promising a reinvention going forward, no one quite knows what to expect.
The king of darkness, Rødhåd can create an atmosphere like few others can. This set finds the German DJ in top form, expertly melding sounds from techno, electro, and even some acid. If you want your festival experience to have a real industrial vibe, this is your man.
