Festival Flashback: Florence + the Machine, Glastonbury 2015

Festival Flashback: Florence + the Machine, Glastonbury 2015

Glastonbury headliners are forever a point of contention, so imagine the furore when a headliner pulls out; whose touring schedule is clear? Who could better last year's headliners? Who can make the step up to the coveted slot? Well, back in 2015, this exact dilemma occurred.

Dave Grohl, having never headlined the Worthy Farm festival before, was invited by Emily and Michael Eavis (along with the Foo's of course) to headline the Friday night. Alas, only weeks before, Grohl broke his leg in an on-stage mishap whilst in Gothenburg, having to cancel their remaining European dates.

Who could fill his shoes? Step up Florence Welch; albeit without any shoes.

Bedazzling the near 80,000 festival-faithful in attendance, Florence + the Machine dispelled any previous doubts there were about her deserving the accolade of 'Glastonbury headliner' with a sparkling setlist. 'Dark Days Are Over', 'Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)', and 'You've Got The Love' were evident crowd pleasers, but the biggest cheers were reserved for her rendition of Foo Fighter's 'Times Like These', paying homage to Dave Grohl and co. in their absence.

Conducting their chants, Florence was visibly humbled by the choral response from the Pyramid Stage crowd. Flowing across the stage, she flourished in the spotlight and established herself as a true Glastonbury icon.
