Tomorrowland 2018: Weekend 1 Highlights

Tomorrowland 2021

Tomorrowland 2021

Boom, Belgium

Unless you've been living under a rock, you know that EDM's main event opened its gates for the first of two weekends on Friday. You may have heard of some of the acts who played, with main stage sets coming from the likes of Martin Garrix, Steve Angello, Steve Aoki, Dua Lipa, Axwell Λ Ingrosso and Armin van Buuren. Ringing any bells?

The Glastonbury of clubbing, Tomorrowland brings out the best in its artists, who always do something special for the loyal People of Tomorrow.

Here are the best moments from an absolutely insane first weekend.

Hardwell's Return

Having not performed at the festival for three years due to an alleged spat with festival favourites Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Hardwell's exile has officially ended this year. He didn't miss the opportunity to acknowledge the enormity of the situation.

Avicii Tributes Galore

Say what you will about the music, but the EDM community is more like a global family than any other genre. So of course there were going to be a number of tributes to their fallen hero this year.

Sebastian Ingrosso Joins Steve Angello On Stage

Two thirds of Swedish House Mafia appearing on Tomorrowland's main stage isn't anything out of the ordinary. Axwell Λ Ingrosso are mainstays, but on Sunday night fans were treated to a different 2/3 appearance as Sebastian Ingrosso joined Steve Angello during his solo set.

Salvatore Ganacci's dance moves on the main stage

The classic expression is don't get high on your own supply. Clearly Salvatore Ganacci abides not by such rules as he was busting moves throughout his Saturday afternoon main stage set.

Psytrance takes its place amongst the big boys

It's been a long time coming, but psytrance has officially reached the big time as Vini Vici brought the one time shunned genre to Tomorrowland's MainStage for the first time ever. This is a big moment as it shows that times and tastes are changing. Also the festival's adaptability points to how it's been able to sustain its position atop the electronic music hierarchy for so many years.
