As lockdown continues across the world, we find out how artists are coping with life in quarantine. Next up in our new series is long-time house innovator Mr. C.
What has been your go to quarantine food or drink?
I eat and drink very healthy but I've really been loving Rotisserie Chicken with Tarragon Salad washed down with Kombucha.
Are you trying to learn any new talents?
I’ve learned loads about the internet, servers, Wi-Fi and streaming lately.
Pick a movie or show everyone should watch now.
I’m Not OK With That is a great TV show. Also if you haven’t yet discovered the delights of RuPaul’s Drag Race then you’re not doing life properly.
Are you working on new music? If so, what can you tell us about it?
My 'Radical Inclusion' remix package is out now including my own remix as well as Radio Rental, J. Gabriel & Chuffing Buffy, and In.Phrequent. My Wonkytonk single with Radio Rental called 'Wonk' is out in five weeks time and in July my Spell EP with Noel Jackson as East LA Teck is out.
I’m also working on my follow Mr.C EP and remixes for J .Gabriel & Chuffing Buffy for Superfreq, Ian Taylor for Reject Music and another for my friends Joel Brittain and Miss C AKA Chloe Sinclair, who’s now one of our Superfreq residents and promoters.
Any tips to staying calm and happy?
Daily meditation is a game changer for those who don’t meditate. It relieves you of any worry, fear, anxiety and stress. Also avoid the news.
What is one YouTube video you think everyone should watch?
People shouldn't watch YouTube videos. They’re mostly unscientifically substantiated poppycock and balderdash. Although do go and watch all the old Shamen videos. They’re fab.
Pick one album that you think everyone should listen to while in quarantine.
Padlock by Gwen Guthrie. Sly and Robbie on bass, drums and production, Steve Thompson and Wally Badarou on guitars and keys, and Larry Levan on the mix down. Add in the fact that Gwen Guthrie has the voice of an angel and you have the best album ever made, in my humble opinion.
Are you exercising more or less? If more, do you have any at home workout tips?
About the same. I live in steep hill in Los Angeles so I can hike with the dog without seeing a soul. Sadly I’m not able to swim, which is my go-to exercise but lots of stretching and core exercises. Everyone should take up yoga if they have time.
What is the first thing you want to do when life goes back to normal?
Hug all my friends. I miss them all so much.
Beatles or Rolling Stones? Why?
Who? Can we change that to Earth, Wind & Fire or Chic please?
Would you rather know the history of every object you touched or be able to talk to animals?
Talk to the animals. Then I could be Dr. DoVeryLittleIndeed. Washing your hands is a thing.
